Control your narrative
Or someone else will
When public opinion turns against you, hours matter.
Anchorage Partners provides high-stakes reputational strategy and quiet, behind-the-scenes support for organizations, schools, and families navigating their hardest moments. Built on substantive action, values-first guidance, and absolute discretion.
A public crisis doesn’t have to be the end of your story.
You did not plan for this. No one does.
A comment. A post. A recording. A decision that made sense in the moment and doesn't anymore.
Then it moves faster than you could have imagined. By the time the right people are in the room, the story is already being told. And you are not the one telling it.
That is the moment Anchorage Partners was built for.
What happens in public is managed. Our work with you is private.
We are a crisis communications and reputational strategy firm based in Washington, DC. We work by primarily by referral, quietly, with corporate, nonprofit, and private clients. Organizations, schools, leaders, young people, and families.
Who We Help
Most crisis firms work one room. We work the whole house — because a reputational crisis rarely respects the line between an institution and the people inside it.
Schools & youth-serving organizations.
An incident involving a student, a faculty member, or a coach can put years of institutional trust at risk in a weekend. We help heads of school, boards, and youth-serving nonprofits respond with clarity and care — protecting the community without abandoning the person at the center of it.
Students & families.
A young person makes a mistake in public. The fallout — social, emotional, academic — can follow them into rooms that decide their future. This is the work almost no one else does. We help families steady the moment, protect the path forward, and help a young person learn something real from the hardest week of their life.
Attorneys & legal teams.
A legal strategy and a communications strategy are not the same thing — and they can quietly work against each other. We partner with law firms as a parallel communications advisor, especially in sensitive matters involving young people and institutions, managing narrative risk alongside the legal work without ever getting in front of it.
Nonprofits & mission-driven organizations.
When a mission-driven organization stumbles, the stakes are donors, staff, and the trust the mission runs on. We help nonprofits and faith-based institutions respond with humility, repair what was strained, and lead from their values instead of away from them.
Executives & professionals.
An old post resurfaces. An offhand remark lands wrong. A leader becomes the story. We help executives and professionals respond in a way that is honest, proportionate, and forward-looking — recalibrating a reputation without pretending the moment didn't happen.
How We’re Different:
Good people make mistakes. Good organizations make them too. Our clients have one thing in common: they are willing to own it.
That is the starting line. We don't work with people looking for a way around accountability. We work with people looking for a way through it. Our approach is restorative, not punitive. The goal is never just to escape blame. It's to rebuild trust, demonstrate real accountability, and come out of the crisis with the relationships that matter still standing — and often stronger than before. Accountability is not revenge. A good apology is personal, not strategic. And spin disconnected from genuine change isn't strategy — it's a delay. We don't do delay.
This is culture repair, not just crisis PR.
The first window is the one that counts.
In the hours after a reputational event, the narrative takes shape. If you're not present for that, the story still gets written — just without you in the room. Silence is surrender. Timing is everything. That doesn't mean panic, and it doesn't mean rushing to a microphone. Panic is human, but it's not a strategy. Clarity is. Empathy is. Discretion is. The work is moving deliberately, fast — knowing which conversation comes first, and who needs to hear from you before they hear from anyone else.
Step 1:
Analysis
We begin with a situational analysis; collecting all circumstantial facts, evaluating stakeholder sentiment, and determining issue reach by identifying the number of publications - both local and national – in which the relevant matter has been mentioned. Social media traction is evaluated, and reputation monitoring tools are put in place.
Step 2:
Strategy Development
We then identify the most effective available tools for regular communication with internal, stakeholder, and public audiences, working closely with the client to develop response messaging for each. Team roles are identified as needed, and client or relevant spokespersons are trained on delivering crisis messaging.
Step 3:
Deployment & Monitoring
Approved messages are released, cross-media strategies are engaged for all public-facing communications, and time-sensitive developments and reputation data are shared via internal feedback loops. Crisis coverage is evaluated, opinion trends and storylines are analyzed, and strategy is adjusted as needed.
Step 4:
Response Evaluation & Coaching
After managing the initial response, we conduct a post-crisis analysis and make recommendations as to how the client can prepare for future crises. We also provide coaching resources and suggested courses of action that will allow them to demonstrate their commitment to personal or corporate accountability on an ongoing basis through policy and procedural changes, relevant trainings, and community engagement.
Daniel S. Holt, MPA, Founder
I've spent twenty years in communications, coalition building, and reputation management — including five presidential appointments across two White House administrations. I serve as Vice Chair of the board of an independent school. I've sat on the institutional side of these moments, and I've sat with the families living through them. What I've learned across all of it is simple: most problems in business and in life get solved by connecting the right people, at the right time, with the right words. That's where the work gets done.
What Past Clients Say
“Dan turned the worst moment of our lives into a true learning experience, the culmination of which was my child’s acceptance into their top choice school. A better outcome than we had dreamed of! He changed our lives, and we are forever grateful.”
— Mom of rising college freshman, Los Angeles CA
“When an employee said something that should never be said, Dan and the Anchorage team shifted our perspective from punitive to reparative, focusing on accountability not only for the employee, but for the company as well. He brought us through our most difficult chapter with our reputation intact, and stronger and wiser for the experience.”
— Small Business CEO, Atlanta GA
“As a parent, you come to truly appreciate the significance of someone who helps mold your child’s transition into adulthood. Dan is that person for us. Our son learned some valuable lessons, but thankfully they are no longer at the expense of his future.”
— Dad, Morristown NJ
What We Believe
Transparency. Trust is what carries a team or a family through the unexpected. You build it before you need it.
Accountability. Owning a misstep is what makes the growth real — and what keeps it from happening again.
Forgiveness. Everyone makes mistakes. A focus on empathy and shared humanity is what brings people back together in the difficult moments that follow. Forgiveness isn't weakness. It's the work.
